Missouri executes Marcellus Williams, ignoring pleas from prosecutors and victim's family.

 Marcellus Williams

The state of Missouri executed Marcellus Williams on Tuesday, following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to deny a request to delay the execution. According to the Department of Corrections, Williams was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. CT.

Williams, who had consistently asserted his innocence in the 1998 stabbing of Felicia Gayle in a St. Louis suburb, was executed by lethal injection.

"We hope this brings closure to a case that has lingered for decades," said Missouri Department of Corrections Director Trevor Foley.
